Visibly Related: Small Group Portraiture and the Display of the Social Self
In the last section of the book, I use the notion of the "social self" as a means to explore expressions of the self as part of a group; how does visual culture consolidate a sense of group belonging? By examining images of schoolgirls, family, and male friends, I interrogate the intersection of categories of difference - race, gender, nationality - and how these ideas of self and identity fit within the larger sphere of location.
