For the past twenty+ years I have contributed to the scholarly discourse on visual culture and the significance of representations of identity through research, writing and talks. Now a Senior Scholar, I was a full Professor in the Faculty of Education at York University in Toronto. My teaching and research continues to focus on issues relating to the formation of knowledge by, and within, visual culture. I am especially interested in the (re)presentation of Canadian identities and complex understandings of belonging and difference. Furthermore, I am particularly concerned to expose and explore the ethical implication of the researcher in the construction and dissemination of knowledge, which is always situated and contingent.

In addition to my academic research, which you can find on the Projects page of this website, I have been involved in curatorial projects and initiatives at the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives in Toronto. Aspects of this curatorial work inform my research project on Archival Curation (see Projects). I am currently the Program Director for Northumberland Learning Connection - a part-time volunteer gig.

I have found that life and work intertwine. My passion for interdisciplinary work is undoubtedly shaped by being a first-generation, white, English Montrealer as well as a parent and the first in my family to pursue higher education. At different times and places, any one of these vantage points can shape my research projects.
